Midlife
Revival Jazzband

Peter
Heijen
- Cornet
Peter
Heijen began classical violin lessons when he was only eight years old.
During secondary school, his introduction to Old Style Jazz came from
his neighbour’s living room.
It was there that the band of trumpet player Bob Erwig held its weekly
rehearsals.
“Little man” Peter was allowed to sit in at these rehearsals of the
“Big guys”.
It was in his later years that he became interested in the roots of
jazz, namely, the Revival Jazz of George Lewis, Bunk Johnson, and Ken
Colyer.
Now his all-time idol is Wendell Brunious.
Peter’s life is dominated by his two passions: his work and his
cornet.
This of course adds to his motto: “It don’t mean a thing if it
ain’t got that swing!”
