Mid 1997 an Old Style Jazz orchestra was founded in the region Utrecht (NL)named the  “Midlife Revival Jazzband”. Each member of the band gathered experience during many years in different jazz-combinations.They found each other in their mutual warm interest for the New Orleans revival. Recordings from musicians like Kid Ory and George Lewis inspired them greatly. Georg Lewis said: “Rhythm is the most important thing in music. It isn’t the horns, it’s the rhythm. In a new Orleans band every instrument is a rhythm instrument”. The 6 musicians of the band endorse this view and that is what you definitely hear in their CD recording. It was a clear choice from the very start that it would be a 6-man-formation with banjo, bass and percussion in the rhythm section and three frontline musicians creating a transparent sound colour. The band was inspired anew when it gave a concert in New Orleans (LA - USA) during the famous French Quarter Festival in 2000. The members of the orchestra enjoyed their performance very much and consequently dedicated the first CD of the Midlife Revival Jazzband unanimously to the city of New Orleans (where the jazz change was born around the century)  naming  it “Up To New Orleans”.
